PACCAL is inviting everyone to watch the play “Sunrise, Sunset: Looking for William,” on Saturday, 07 November 2009, 2:00 pm at the Five Corners Library Auditorium, 678 Newark Ave., Jersey City 07306. The play is an undertaking of the Pan American Concerned Citizen’s Action League, Inc. (PACCAL) in line with its “Artists-in-Residence” Project, which is carried out through the 2009 Local Arts Grant, New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
Looking for William was initially staged in Jersey City, New Jersey in March 2004 under the auspices of the Philippine-American Friendship Committee (PAFCOM). In August 2004, PAFCOM collaborated with the Office of the Consul General, New York and presented Looking for William at the Kalayaan Hall Auditorium at the Philippine Consulate, Manhattan, NY in connection with Hon. Consul General Cecilia Rebong’s Classroom Galing sa Mamamayang Pilipino project. In July 2005, the play was staged in the Bergen County by the Filipino-American Association of Fair Lawn for the benefits of the recipients of the Gawad-Kalinga project in the Philippines.
Under the new title “Sunrise, Sunset: Looking for William,” the play touches on issues and conflicts encountered by the Filipino-American youth in their life here in America and the challenge faced by the community and authorities in handling the problems of these youth. As well, the play will give the audience a glimpse of Philippine history through its inclusion of scenes depicting events that actually took place in our country at one time or another. Most important of all, the play imparts the messages of love of country, love of others and above all – love and fear of God. Among the highlights of the play are the “appearances” of iconic political figures in the Philippines such as the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, Kris Aquino, Imelda Marcos, and the Patroness of Democracy, Pres. Cory Aquino.
